Bengals select Washington TE Drew Sample in second round

The Cincinnati Bengals traded out of the No. 42 pick of the 2019 NFL draft’s second round and stood tall at No. 52, selecting Washington tight end Drew Sample.

Sample, 6’5″ and 255 pounds, is a massive target for Andy Dalton also known for his blocking skills. With the Huskies as a senior, he caught 25 passes for 252 yards and three touchdowns.

Sample fits the character type Zac Taylor has been after and also addresses a position of need with Tyler Eifert’s health always a question mark. The depth chart also lost Tyler Kroft to free agency.

This move comes on the heels of the Bengals making Alabama offensive lineman Jonah Williams the No. 11 pick in the first round. Here, the Bengals make a pick that won’t be overly popular, but still hits a need.
