Bengals request interview with Saints’ Mike Hodges for LB coach

The Cincinnati Bengals have requested an interview with New Orleans Saints defensive assistant Mike Hodges. Hodges would be the linebacker coach in Cincinnati if hired.

SiriusXM’s Alex Marvez was the first to break the report.

The Saints do have the option to block the interview, and for Cincinnati, that really wouldn’t be a shocker. In their quest for almost a completely new coaching staff, they’ve seen a few interview requests denied.

As for Hodges, he joined the Saints in 2017 after coaching at Eastern Illinois University for a few seasons. Prior to that, he coached at Fresno State from 2012-2013.

The one thing that most of Taylor’s new hires have in common is that they’re in some way or another connected. Hodges wouldn’t be any different.

Hodges played at Texas A&M from 2008-2011. He was a star linebacker, earning a second-team All-Big 12 award his senior year. A spectator of Hodges at that time was Texas A&M graduate assistant, Zac Taylor.

Taylor was a graduate assistant at Texas A&M from 2008-2011, the exact same seasons that Hodges showcased his dominance on the field. Now, Taylor, who firsthand watched Hodges dominate as a collegiate linebacker, wants him as a coach.

This seems like a match made in heaven.
