Cincinnati Bengals running back Rodney Anderson says he will kneel during the national anthem at games in 2020.
Anderson said he expects others to be right there with him, as noted by WCPO’s Laurel Pfahler:
“I’ll definitely be kneeling. I feel like there’s a big issue and that issue is unarmed Black people being killed by law enforcement officers unjustly. I am 100% behind the kneeling movement.
I don’t want to call it for anybody else, but you know, with all the things that have come to light, it would be hard to think that not a lot of people would be.”
The Bengals, alongside the rest of the NFL, changed course on this topic in recent months. Cincinnati was one of the slower teams to issue statements in the wake of George Floyd’s death, but pledged $250,000 to community initiatives. EVP Katie Blackburn later issued a statement in response to some “raw, uncut” player meetings staged by head coach Zac Taylor.
As for Anderson, he’s on the hunt for a comeback after another knee injury. He’s majorly flashed in preseason games as expected so far. Presumably, he won’t be the only member of the team who decides to kneel during the 2020 season.
