Bengals QB Ryan Finley throwing well in training camp after rough debut

Things might finally be turning for the better for Cincinnati Bengals quarterback Ryan Finley.

Finley, a surprise pick by the Bengals after a trade up, had a rough spring after showing up for camps. But now a week into his first NFL training camp, it seems Finley has found a groove.

Geoff Hobson of Bengals.com provided the details:

_It was probably rookie Ryan Finley’s best day yet throwing the ball spring or summer. He had two red-zone TD passes, one to tight end Mason Schreck down the middle of the seam just before he ran out of the end zone and one to rookie wide receiver Stanley Morgan on an inside slant near the goal line that Morgan ran in from about two yards out.

It’s a great sign for Finley given the circumstances. He’s in a potential battle with Jeff Driskel for the right to back up Andy Dalton (Driskel himself has turned some heads on the coaching staff with his mobility).

Granted, Finley’s roster spot isn’t likely in danger by any means given the sheer importance of the position he plays. But he was going to need to at least show better than he did in the spring.

An iffy start for a rookie passer isn’t uncommon, of course. For the Bengals, the next step is seeing some of his progress translate to live action during a preseason game.
