Criticism of Paul Brown Stadium isn’t new.
The home of the Cincinnati Bengals isn’t terribly old, but some interesting design setbacks and the lack of meaningful innovation to break up the monotony of cement makes for a stale experience.
Understandably, then, PBS ranked as one of the five worst stadiums in the NFL when The Athletic experts voted:
Bengals reporter Jay Morrison: “Paul Brown Stadium is only 20 years old, but it already feels like a relic with its drab gray exterior and interior. Shawshank had more character. There’s no Ring of Honor or Hall of Fame or anything else that signifies where you are, and it’s nearly impossible to roam from one side of the stadium to the other without changing levels multiple times rather than just walking around the concourse the way you do in most venues. The good news is there are a couple of escalators to get you to the upper canopy level. The bad news is they only work about 35 percent of the time, much like the team’s game plans.”
Besides aesthetics and design, that point about a Ring of Honor is really important. When the Bengals finally decide to make one, these are the legends who should go in it.
As of right now, the big concern is even having a preseason or normal training camp, of course. But somewhere along the line, the Bengals will have to make some changes when it comes to stadium experience, including a Ring of Honor.
