Bengals pass on Penei Sewell in new 2021 NFL mock draft

The Cincinnati Bengals take a pass on Oregon offensive tackle Penei Sewell in a new 2021 NFL mock draft.

Said mock comes from NFL.com’s Daniel Jeremiah, who has the Bengals instead opting for Northwestern offensive tackle Rashawn Slater:

“Florida TE Kyle Pitts would be tempting right here, but the Bengals must address the offensive line. Slater has five-position flexibility and his tape is outstanding.”

This mock has Sewell, early favorite of Bengals fans and many onlookers, falling to the 10th pick with the Dallas Cowboys.

We’ll have to see how the draft process plays out over the coming weeks and months, but a player like Slater with more film and apparent flexibility could always pull off an upset and come off the board with the fifth pick.

The note about Pitts is also interesting — the Bengals could always choose to get Joe Burrow another weapon or their best player available while taking an offensive tackle in the second round in what is considered a very deep class for the spot.

For now, chalk it up as another interesting way things could go in the top five on draft day.
