Bengals owner Mike Brown isn’t a fan of the 18-game idea

It should not come as any surprise to find out Cincinanti Bengals owner Mike Brown is against the idea of an 18-game season.

The idea of an 18-game season is once again making the rounds because some owners pitched the idea at a collective bargaining meeting, according to the Wall Street Journal’s Andrew Beaton:

“This isn’t the first time 18 games has been discussed. But the conversations around an expanded schedule have approached a new level of creativity, three people familiar with the discussions said, with the possibilities including expanded rosters and mandating players only participate in a certain number of games.

As one can see above from Jay Morrison of The Athletic though, Brown isn’t one of those owners nudging the league toward an expanded season.

While Brown has a reputation as someone resistant to change, this one makes plenty of sense. If one of the proposals to make the schedule 18 games is barring the usage of starters anyway, why expand?

A year ago, the Bengals were assaulted with injuries during a lost season. Four games in the preseason plus 16 more are arguably enough as it is, so expect Brown to keep being at the forefront of the opposition here.
