Bengals news: Rookie lost to IR, waiver claim added, Joe Burrow update

What is typically a pretty quiet Friday for the Cincinnati Bengals during the regular season was anything but this week.

A short week as it is coming out of the Monday night win over the Rams and before the Sunday showdown with the Titans, the Bengals added to a slow news day by shifting an important rookie to injured reserve and adding a new player to the 53-man roster via the waiver wire system.

Oh, and the final injury report featuring a guy named Joe Burrow went live too before the team heads to Tennessee.

Here’s a look at Bengals news and notes for September 30.

Charlie Jones to injured reserve -- Bengals Wire

Bengals breakout rookie Charlie Jones is now out at least four weeks due to a thumb injury. The fourth-rounder who already has one return for a touchdown on his resume leaves a big hole in the special teams unit.

Bengals made addition on waiver wire -- Bengals Wire

The Bengals added linebacker Devin Harper off the waiver wire on Friday. Oddly enough, the Cowboys had been very open about wanting to add Harper back to the practice squad after he cleared waivers, so this was the Bengals pulling off a steal.

Joe Burrow update and final injury report -- Bengals Wire

A nice surprise — Burrow was a full-go in practice again. He’s good to go in Tennessee, but the injury report doesn’t say the same for Irv Smith Jr. or Akeem Davis-Gaither.

Derrick Henry isn't worried about past matchups -- Titans' website

The Bengals have shut down Derrick Henry in each of their last meetings to a dramatic degree. He’s not sweating it: “It takes all 11 — everybody focused, having the will to get off the line of scrimmage, create space, us finishing runs, guys going in there and digging out safeties and DBs. (The Bengals) have had success against us the last couple of games, and we just have to be better focused and get into drives, and everybody do what they are supposed to.”

Titans want to exploit Burrow's lack of mobility -- Titans' website

Like we’ve stressed, opponents know all too well that Burrow can’t move around much. Check out the quote from Titans edge rusher edge rusher Arden Key.

“(Burrow) is getting the ball out quick – he’s the best right now that we’ve played so far of getting the ball out the quickest,” Key said. “We know a lot of that has to do with the calf; he can’t move around a lot in the pocket. So, it’s about getting balls batted down when they are getting the ball out fast, and when the opportunity comes, when he does hold the ball, we have to get him down on the ground.”

Key Titans players wide receiver Treylon Burks and left guard Peter Skoronski have been ruled out, with four total ruled out.
