Bengals meeting with Duke QB Daniel Jones

Duke quarterback Daniel Jones turned some heads Friday at the NFL scouting combine by confirming he has a meet with the Cincinnati Bengals.

The Bengals were one of a few teams Jones confirmed during an interview with SiriusXM NFL Radio:

The Bengals performing due diligence by meeting with a prospect who figures to fall within their drafting range isn’t too much of a surprise.

But it does qualify as interesting. Since arriving as the new head coach, Zac Taylor has been adamant Andy Dalton is the guy moving forward as he inherits a team that hasn’t had a new coach in 16 years.

In many cases, the new coach eventually looks to tie himself to a quarterback of his choice.

As a prospect, Jones is at least interesting in a class boasting Kyler Murray as the biggest storyline. A year ago, he threw for 22 touchdowns and nine interceptions while generally being hailed as a prospect with refined mechanics after three years as a starter.

Due diligence or not, a new coaching staff in charge makes a note like this more interesting than usual and it isn’t something to forget as the draft approaches.
