Bengals make roster moves to reach 80-player limit before training camp

The Cincinnati Bengals are now in the clear when it comes to the NFL’s adjusted 80-man roster limit before workouts begin Tuesday.

Monday, the Bengals announced a trio of moves, sending Josh Tupou to the opt-out list and waiving tight end Moritz Bohringer and running back Devwah Whaley.

Tupou informed the team of his decision to opt-out earlier in the week. Bohringer was a player assigned to the Bengals via a prior NFL program that gave overseas players to rosters. Whaley was an intriguing undrafted running back but was joining one of the deepest positions on the roster.

Barring something unexpected, the Bengals will be able to stay at the 80-player mark, meaning they won’t have to split things off into groups after the NFL and NFLPA negotiated new training camp rules, including reduced rosters from the original 90.
