Bengals make practice squad roster moves ahead of TNF kickoff

The Cincinnati Bengals again leaned into a new NFL rule this season and promoted two players to the active roster to reach a 55-man limit before Thursday’s primetime kickoff against the Cleveland Browns.

Defensive lineman Freedom Akinmoladun and safety Trayvon Henderson were the two names called up to the active roster, the team announced.

The moves are a direct response to the final injury report for the short turnaround this week, which lists two defensive linemen and a safety out for the game.

This year the Bengals have already benefited twice from using a new NFL rule that lets a team call up two players from the practice squad to the main roster for gameday without exposing them to waivers.

Notably, Henderson was one of four players the Bengals chose to protect on the practice squad this week (another new rule).
