Bengals hosted 4 players on tryouts at training camp

The Cincinnati Bengals worked out four players over the weekend on a tryout basis.

According to The MMQB’s Albert Breer, these were the players in town:

  • Frederick Mauigoa, C, Washington State
  • Reginald McKenzie, G, Tennessee
  • Maurice Smith, DB, Georgia
  • Garrett Taylor, DB, Penn State

The biggest name is McKenzie, son of former Raiders GM Reggie McKenzie. He was a sixth-round pick by the Kansas City Chiefs in 2018.

Many times these sorts of tryouts are coaches just getting familiar with names out there in case they need to make a move at a later date. Given the injury history in the offensive trenches lately and Trae Waynes and Shawn Williams already suffering varying injuries in the secondary, future-minded workouts would make some sense here.

The Bengals otherwise had a relatively normal practice Sunday after a day off, though got some notable returns in the form of Tee Higgins and John Ross.
