Bengals host 7 players for workouts ahead of Week 1

The Cincinnati Bengals hosted seven free agents for workouts as the prep for Week 1 began.

According to Aaron Wilson of the Houston Chronicle, they were: Malik Carney, Ryan Groy, LaRoy Reynolds, Sutton Smith, Connor Strachan, Josh Wells, Bryan Witzmann.

ESPN’s Field Yates centered in on Josh Wells, Ryan Groy, Bryan Wietzmann for good reason. All three are offensive linemen, with Ryan Groy arguably the most notable, as he’s a 28-year-old veteran who last worked with New Orleans but had been getting first-team reps in practice with Buffalo last year while competing with — you guessed it — Russell Bodine.

Josh Wells started five games for Jacksonville last year at tackle and is 28. Also of note is Sutton Smith, a late-round pick by the Pittsburgh Steelers this year who was worked out by some teams as an inside linebacker before the draft.

While the team hasn’t announced anything the theme is simple — they’re still looking at offensive line help and linebacker depth. For the former, Cordy Glenn remains in concussion protocol and for the latter, they only have four linebackers on the roster going into Seattle.
