Bengals hiring Mark Duffner as defensive assistant

The Cincinnati Bengals hired a recognizable face recently, bringing aboard Mark Duffner as a defensive assistant.

Duffner spent last season with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers as a defensive coordinator, but also happened to serve in the same role with the Bengals  back in 2001:

Duffner, 65, started his stint with the Buccaneers in 2016 before inheriting the coordinator gig. He had previously held linebacker gigs with several different teams.

First joining the Bengals in 1997 as a positional coach before working his way up to coordinator, Duffner also has ties to new head coach Zac Taylor. He coached alongside Taylor and new defensive coordinator Lou Anarumo with the Miami Dolphins in 2014.

The connections don’t stop there either — he coached at the University of Cincinnati as a coordinator in 1977.
