Bengals get redesigned uniforms via Sports Illustrated’s challenge

The Cincinnati Bengals are one of the teams most commonly brought up when the conversation about new jerseys and logos starts.

And a disclaimer — the Bengals don’t seem to have any plans when it comes to jersey or logo alterations in the near future.

Still, it’s interesting to take a look at some ideas fans around the globe have as far as redesigns go. Paul Lukas of Sports Illustrated asked fans to submit their custom designs and later picked the best.

Here’s one of the more interesting conclusions:

1. Nobody likes the side panels. If there’s one Bengals uni critique we can all agree on, it’s that side panels on the black and orange jerseys are an embarrassing eyesore that should have been scrapped ages ago. Happily, almost all of the design submissions we received were side panel-free, and several entrants said they’d made a point of removing this element from the team’s look.

Otherwise, most seem to agree the helmets are unique and should stay, though the “B” logo is polarizing.

If nothing else, this is a fun offseason exercise surrounding a team that has seemed a bit due for a fresh look — especially after finally moving on from a 16-year head coach.

For now, fans can only look at some of these redesigns and keep their fingers crossed.
