Bengals gave out one of NFL’s largest signing bonuses to a reserve/future deal

The Cincinnati Bengals gave out one of the biggest signing bonuses to a reserve/future contract of any team in the NFL recently.

The big bonus went to long snapper Dan Godsil at $27,482, which ranked among the six biggest signing bonuses on those sorts of contracts this offseason, according to ESPN’s Field Yates.

It’s a pretty interesting, albeit small development — Most reserve/future deals don’t have any extra cash, so Godsil getting so much and locking him in for the future means the team sees some great potential or knows something we don’t.

With veteran long snapper Clark Harris set to be a free agent at the age of 37, this could quietly signal a changing of the guard at a core spot for special teams coordinator Darrin Simmons.

Godsil didn’t make the final roster last September but got another workout in October and is well known around the organization at this point. He was a preseason player for the team during the 2019 offseason after going undrafted.
