The Cincinnati Bengals started free agency with a bang on the offenisve line with two big-name signings, then dramatically slowed down.
That didn’t change much on Wednesday, the day free agency “officially” opened with the arrival of the new league year.
But the Bengals did announce two re-signings with long-snapper Clark Harris and defensive back Michael Thomas (not the wideout, the other one!).
Don’t scoff too much at the “small” moves here. Continuity is an important part of special teams and Harris will be back for his 14th season with the team, his age-38 season.
And Thomas is a fun underdog story who effectively became the third rotational safety during the playoff run. With Ricardo Allen retiring, he’s a no-brainer to bring back and let at least compete for that third spot again, at least before any other signings or draft selections.
Thomas is also a key piece on special teams that, again, helps the continuity.
With these two back and C.J. Uzomah gone, Riley Reiff, Josh Tupou and Eli Apple are some of the team’s biggest free agents currently on the open market.
