Bengals appear to get some good news on Auden Tate’s knee injury

It sounds like the Cincinnati Bengals avoided the worst-case scenario with wideout Auden Tate during Thursday night’s loss to the New York Giants.

Tate got the nod with the ones in the all-important third preseason game and left the field with a knee injury. The team didn’t waste time declaring him out, but the speed of such a declaration doesn’t sound like it was a hint at severity.

Jay Morrison of The Athletic provided some good news:

This meshes well with the fact he was later seen on the sideline without any sort of brace. That’s great news for Tate, who seems to have wrapped up his roster spot after impressing this new coaching staff. With A.J. Green in question for the opener in Seattle, the team likes his situational ability to win when the ball is in the air.

If Tate had been a candidate to miss a longer stretch of time, it might have opened the door for a fringe guy like Cordy Core to stick. If Tate is fine, he and Damion Willis seem like guys who have locked in spots on the 53.
