Bengals announce four protected practice squad players for Week 1

The Cincinnati Bengals announced their four protected players on the practice squad ahead of their Week 1 game against the Minnesota Vikings.

Cincinnati protected the following players:

  • CB Tony Brown
  • TE Mason Schreck
  • G Keaton Sutherland
  • DT Renell Wren

It’s a little interesting to see the Bengals didn’t protect a name like Thaddeus Moss. But the emphasis is clear — special teams depth with Schreck, interior line depth with Sutherland, corner depth with Brown and massive upside with Wren.

New rules for the expanded 16-man practice squads let NFL teams protect four players per week from being claimed by other teams.

This move comes on the heels of the Bengals making another addition to the practice squad and letting another player walk.
