Bengal has 52 lakh Covid vaccine doses, says Centre in reply to Mamata’s demand

NEW DELHI: In response to West Bengal chief minister Mamata Banerjee’s demand for 14 crore doses of Covid-19 vaccines, the Centre has said the state already has 52 lakh doses which is second to just Maharashtra.

Mamata Banerjee, in a letter written to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, had demanded around 14 crore doses of Covid-19 vaccine from the Centre.

The West Bengal chief minister wrote that only the said amount of doses would be able to cover all the people in the state who were eligible for vaccination.

In the letter, Banrjee also stated that the Covid situation may turn grim if the supply of vaccine was not augmented in her state.

However, according to sources in the Centre, West Bengal has around 52 lakh doses which was the second highest reserve in the country.

“Highest doses are with Maharashtra, another non-BJP state,” the sources added.
