Benfica's Rangers injury crisis deepens as star defender becomes SIXTH player set to miss Ibrox showdown

Toiling Benfica are set to be without over half a team for next week's Europa League cracker against Rangers after defender Nuno Taveres suffered training ground agony.

The Portuguese giants escaped with a 3-3 draw at home to Steven Gerrard 's men despite having to play with 10 men for 71 minutes of the game and being 3-1 down.

They will travel to Glasgow for the fourth round of games in the section, but they now have six players missing for the match at Ibrox

Portuguese Under 21s left back Taveres has suffered a muscle injury and he has been an important player for Jorge Jesus' men, but suffered the injury in training this week and will be out for several weeks.

Earlier this week, Benfica confirmed Darwin Nunez and Julian Weigl both tested positive for Covid-19 and will have to self-isolate and will miss the Rangers game.

And with full back Andre Almeida, on-loan Barcelona defender Jean-Clair Todibo and Brazilian playmaker Pedrinho all already out for several weeks, it leaves the Lisbon side with a seriously depleted squad for their match in Scotland.
