Benfica further decimated ahead of Rangers clash as Adel Taarabt suffers Covid-19 blow

Benfica have suffered another blow ahead of their clash with Rangers after Adel Taarabt tested positive for Covid-19.

The Super Eagles' squad has been decimated in the build up to Thursday's Europa League clash at Ibrox.

And now Taarabt has become the fifth member of Jorge Jesus' side to be struck down the virus.

David Tavares and Mile Svilar have reportedly recovered, although the former is now injured, while Julian Weigl and Darwin Nunez are self-isolating.

Nuno Taveres, Andre Almeida, Jean-Clair Todibo and Pedrinho are also injured to leave the Portuguese side well short heading into their Glasgow visit.

Boss Jesus rested yet more first-team stars for a 1-0 cup win over minnows Paredes at the weekend.

But even with his remaining fit players getting the weekend off, the manager still faces a sweat in piecing his team together for what is a crucial Euro encounter.

Benfica and Rangers played out a thrilling 3-3 draw in the reverse fixture, with Steven Gerrard 's men leading 3-1 before conceding two late goals.

The sides are locked on seven points each at the top of Group D.
