Benfica duo 'to complete' Nottingham Forest moves today

Benfica duo Yuri Ribeiro and Alfa Semedo could reportedly complete moves to Nottingham Forest today.

The pair were strongly linked with the Reds over the weekend, and now Portuguese newspaper Record claim it is thought the signings will be made official today.

They say Ribeiro and Semedo arrived in England yesterday to start their medicals with the Championship club, and have revealed more details about the former’s switch.

Left-back Ribeiro posted a farewell message to Benfica on social media on Sunday, with Record previously saying either a loan or permanent deal was possible with Sabri Lamouchi’s side.

However, Monday’s edition states it will be a permanent contract for the Portugal Under-21 international.

It is said Benfica will retain 50 percent of the 22-year-old’s rights – with website Sport Witness saying that will mean the Portuguese team have secured 50 percent of a future transfer fee.

Midfielder Semedo will reportedly head to the City Ground on loan, with Forest seemingly having beaten off competition from Burnley, Middlesbrough and Wigan Athletic for his signature.

Ribeiro confirmed his Benfica departure on Instagram, writing: “I arrived at @slbenfica with 15 years, with the dream of one day representing the main team. It was achieved.

“They were years of tremendous professional and personal growth. Direction, coaches, physicians, physiotherapists, club employees, fans and especially the players with whom I liked to share my day to day, and the privilege of making great friendships!

“It was not an easy time, but it helped me to grow into the future. I got a kid here but I leave a man from here.

“Thank you.”
