Manchester City are determined to land a striker this summer with their top target being Tottenham and England star Harry Kane.
The club are said to have had a first bid worth around £100million rejected by Spurs, with chairman Daniel Levy hoping to get closer to £150million for their star striker.
While City remain determined to sign Kane, Levy's desire to keep him is just as strong and it could become a long and arduous saga to get a deal over the line this summer.
The Premier League champions might have to make a decision eventually on whether to move to alternative targets.
It has been reported by the Athletic that they have a 'list of other strikers' they could target, with Benfica's Darwin Nunez one potential solution up front.
The 22-year-old Uruguayan striker arrived at the Portuguese side last summer, with Benfica forking out a club record £20.5million to land his signature from LaLiga side Almeria.
Nunez is greatly admired by Benfica boss Jorge Jesus, who has said in the past that the striker would be the club's "most expensive sale" if he leaves the Portuguese club.
This is no small feat when it is to be considered that Joao Felix left Benfica for Atletico Madrid for an eye-watering £113million back in 2019.
After Nunez scored a hat-trick in the Europa League last season, Jesus told SportTV as per Goal : "All this decision-making ability, finishing and speed. He was Benfica's most expensive purchase, and when there is no pandemic, he will be the most expensive sale. He will be a world-class player.
"Unfortunately for me, maybe I will lose him in a short time."
