Benfica chief reveals what club will do to keep Joao Felix from Man Utd's clutches

Benfica have fired a warning to Manchester United and Liverpool as interest in boy wonder Joao Felix intensifies.

They plan to raise the teenager's buy-out clause before the end of the season to stop him leaving on the cheap.

it would take €120million as it stands to lure the 19-year-old away from Portugal.

The Premier League duo are keen - as are Juventus and Real Madrid .

Now Benfica are planning to raise the buy-out to more than €150m, and their new demands could make clubs think again.

Felix dropped the biggest hint yet that he is open to a move to Manchester United last week.

The teen sensation has been linked with many of Europe's elite after a sensational season in the Primeira Liga and in an interview with Spanish sports newspaper Marca he left the door open for a switch.

He said: “My dream is always to play for the big teams and in the big competitions, but as I’ve already said, I am here and I am very happy at Benfica, who are also a big European team.”

When asked if a club paying his reported €120m buyout clause was “crazy”, Felix said: “Maybe, yes.

"But I don’t understand the market or values, they are things for agents and presidents. I confine myself to playing.”

On his compatriot Ronaldo, Felix added: “I don’t know him [personally]. He’s an enormously hard-worker, an exemplary footballer for everyone.

"Everybody knows his story, that it wasn’t easy. He’s been one of the best in the world for many years and he will carry on being so for a long time. Real Madrid are really feeling his absence.”

Benfica president Luis Filipe Vieira insisted they are under no pressure to sell.

“Each day, the club is more solid and robust, more and more autonomous. Today we no longer have to make ineligible sales to balance our accounts," he said earlier this year.

“I reaffirm that we have no objective to sell our main players. With each passing day, these young talents are more valued and prove the good vision, direction and strategy we had.

“As a first step, the need to overcome financial constraints has led to the need to make and take advantage of some sales opportunities.

"Today, only legal requirements defined by the clauses of sales clauses can lead us to this.”
