When times are tough, it's more important than ever to make sure you are receiving the money that you are entitled to.
After all, the last thing you'd want to do is find out that you could have received financial support when you've been working your hardest to cut costs and squeeze every penny.
It can also be worth finding out what changes there might be to your benefits in the event of any changes to your employment status or arrangements - like if you get a new job or change your working hours.
Here's all the payments you need to know over Christmas and New Year 2019, reports Chronicle Live.
England's benefit payment dates for Christmas and New Year 2019-20
Tax Credits
Due date: December 25 2019 - Actual pay date: December 24
Due date: December 26 2019 - Actual pay date: December 24
Due date: January 1 2020 - Actual pay date: December 31
Child Benefit
Child benefit is usually paid every four weeks on a Monday or a Tuesday. The Christmas and New Year Bank Holidays do not fall on a Monday or Tuesday in England, so usual pay dates should remain the same.
Universal Credit and other benefits
These are paid every two weeks (employment support allowance, income support and jobseekers' allowance) or monthly (all other benefits including Universal Credit).
If your due date is the 25th or 26th of December (Christmas and Boxing Day) then your benefits should be paid on Tuesday December 24.
If your benefits are due on the first of the month (Wednesday January 1) your January benefits should be paid on Tuesday December 31
