Benedito Mambuene Mukendi to Aberdeen transfer stonewalled by Jim Goodwin as boss warns against Pittodrie standstill

Jim Goodwin refused to confirm interest in Angolan ‘Beni’ but has insisted it is important Aberdeen don’t stand still in the January window. The Dons, who are looking to bounce back against Rangers on Tuesday, after their weekend defeat to Celtic, are in third spot and are trying to seal a return to European competition.

Reports last week claimed Aberdeen had made contact with the agent of Benedito Mambuene Mukendi. The 20-year-old, who is known as Beni, is an attacking midfielder for Portuguese second tier side Trofense.

Goodwin, when asked about Beni, replied: “We are looking at loads of players, lots of good ones. We are going into the window and will be linked with numerous ones between now and then. Time will tell who we will end up with. But we are always trying to strengthen the squad going into every window. It’s important that we don’t stand still. And that’s what we will try to do.”

Goodwin is looking to bolster his team, currently third in the Scottish Premiership, next month with him previously admitting defensive options are a priority. He is keen on Tranmere Rovers defender Josh Dacres-Cogley but that is more likely to be a pre-contract in the first instance, while it remains to be seen if Goodwin will renew his interest in Connor Ronan, now he is likely to leave Wolves on loan. If Ronan was to snared north then he would be more likely to be the attacking midfield option ahead of Beni.
