Benedict Cumberbatch kept his BAFTA celebrations low-key after revealing he would be too embarrassed to dance at the after-party — fearing he would end up on camera.

The star, 42, who won best actor for Patrick Melrose, slipped out of the Royal Festival Hall before the party got going

He said: “I promised my wife Sophie a dance. But I can’t show it to you. Dancing is usually the thing I can’t wait do, but it is usually just filmed and FaceTimed.

“I am not that good a dancer, so [we’ll go] somewhere I can dance without being filmed.”

Killing Eve triumphs at the TV Baftas

The Killing Eve team had no such qualms, with writer Phoebe Waller-Bridge and stars Jodie Comer and Fiona Shaw celebrating their three Baftas by dancing until 2am. Comer, 26, who won best actress, declared: “Tonight’s the night! It’s going down!”

Asked about her speech, she said: “I was very emotional. I watched the BAFTAs for many, many years on my own in my room and I would think, ‘Oh my God, I want to be in that place’.”

She also revealed that Taylor Swift had been following her career since she starred in ITV drama Doctor Foster: “I met Taylor Swift at the Golden Globes and she said that she loved Doctor Foster. Taylor Swift has watched Doctor Foster, that’s incredible.”
