Benedict Cumberbatch fans sleep out for Hamlet

Benedict Cumberbatch (centre) helped the production at the Barbican to sell out in minutes (Johan Persson)

Fans of Benedict Cumberbatch started queuing for tickets to see their hero as Hamlet almost 20 hours before the box office opens and releases more tickets early on 5 August.

Two young women – who gave their names as Giorgia and Chiara – arrived at the Barbican Centre in London at 3pm on 4 August ahead of the advance box office opening at 10.30am.

The production, which runs for 12 weeks, is expected to attract legions of fans of the 39-year-old actor. It sold out in minutes but the Barbican is to make 30 tickets available each day at £10 each. The first preview starts at 7.15pm.
