Belinda Bencic of Switzerland defeated Hsieh Su-wei of Taiwan 6-3, 6-4 in the final of the WTA EA Hua Hin Championship yesterday.
Swiss world No.165 Bencic, who was once placed as high as eighth in the WTA rankings, was bothered at times by her opponent but mostly had little trouble dominating the Taiwanese yesterday.
Experienced Hsieh had to dig deep but there was no stopping Bencic, 20, in the title showdown at True Arena Hua Hin in Prachuap Khiri Khan.
Hsieh primarily relied on her groundstrokes but Bencic had an answer to almost everything the Taiwanese could throw at her.
Bencic received 160 world ranking points apart from pocketing US$20,000 (660,000 baht) for her victory yesterday. Hsieh took home $11,000 (363,000 baht) plus 95 points for finishing second.
Earlier in the doubles final, Duan Ying-Ying and Wang Yafan of China beat third seeds Dalila Jakupovic of Slovenia and Irina Khromacheva of Russia 6-3, 6-3.
Of the Thai players, Luksika Kumkhum was the best performer.
She crashed out to Viktorija Golubic of Switzerland in the quarter-finals of the tournament on Friday, losing the tie in straight sets.
