Benagaluru: Cop’s 150 paintings themed on jewel beetle to be exhibited

BENGALURU: A sight he witnessed seven years ago when he visited his village in Magadi taluk has inspired this policeman to come up with 150 paintings. On Saturday, he will host his first solo painting exhibition in the city, which he calls a dream come true. The works to be displayed are themed on the jewel beetle.

Varnam Narayanaswamy, assistant sub-inspector, City Armed Reserve, has been doing wonders with his brush for over two decades now. During his 26 years of service, the Magadi man has created many paintings in whatever little free time he could find.

Despite showcasing his skills at various exhibitions earlier, his dream project was the jewel beetle. “Seven years ago I visited my mother’s home in Motaganaahalli village and watched a colourful jewel beetle buzzing over a field. It brought back memories of my school days and the natural beauty amid us. I decided to paint with the theme,” said Narayanaswamy, who spent seven years to complete the collection of 150 paintings.

On Saturday, Chitrakala Parishath will host Narayanaswamy’s first solo painting exhibition; it will be inaugurated in the presence of many including senior police officials. It will be held till July 7.
