May 12--The Cubs' winning streak ended at eight games Wednesday, as Brett Wallace hit a three-run home run off reliever Pedro Strop with two out in the seventh inning as the Padres rallied for a 7-4 victory in the first game of a split doubleheader. Strop entered the game after Travis Jankowski hit a bunt single off Kyle Hendricks, who had retired the previous 10 batters.
At the plate:
Ben Zobrist hit singles in his first two at-bats, and he drew two walks. Addison Russell and Tim Federowicz hit consecutive doubles in the fourth to snap a 2-2 tie.
On the mound:
Carl Edwards Jr. was promoted from Triple-A Iowa as the 26th man for the doubleheader. Edwards had a 2.38 ERA in 11 appearances at Triple-A Iowa. Reliever Neil Ramirez walked three in 1 1/3 innings.
In the field:
Third baseman Javier Baez committed two throwing errors, including a costly miscue in the seventh.
