Ben Woodburn misses out on Liverpool loan exit after Hull City talks break down

Ben Woodburn is set to stay at Liverpool beyond this evening’s transfer deadline after failing to secure a loan move.

The Welshman saw a proposed season-long stint at Sheffield United cut short earlier this month having made just eight appearances in all competitions.

But he was expected to depart Anfield on a temporary deal once again prior to the deadline, with Hull City touted as frontrunners for his signature.

Woodburn’s teammate for both club and country, Harry Wilson, enjoyed a successful spell with the Tigers in 2018, scoring seven goals in just 14 outings.

However, Standard Sport understands Woodburn is unlikely to make the same move this January after talks between the two clubs broke down.

As such, only unexpected late interest in the 19-year-old will result in him departing Anfield before 11pm.

Woodburn, who became the club’s youngest ever goalscorer in notching against Leeds United in 2016, has played a full part in first-team training since his return to Merseyside.

Should he stay put as expected, the Wales international will hope to force his way into Jurgen Klopp’s plans over the remainder of the campaign.
