Ben Woodburn a reported Hearts transfer target as Liverpool look set to offload striker

Hearts are reportedly ‘leading’ the race to sign Ben Woodburn on loan from Liverpool.

Robbie Neilson is looking to add more firepower to his squad before the end of the transfer window with only Liam Boyce and Armand Gnanduillet recognised centre forwards.

And Goal.com reports that that Jambos are at the head of the queue to sign the Liverpool youngster.

The 21-year-old holds the record as the Reds’ youngest ever goalscorer after netting in a League Cup win over Leeds back in September 2017 at just 17 yeast and 45 days old.

Woodburn is also the second youngest player to ever score for the Welsh national team.

However, since announcing himself as a teenager, the 21-year-old has struggled to force his way into the first team at Anfield.

Despite making ten appearances for Wales, loans to Sheffield United, Oxford and Blackpool failed to see his club career take off and he now finds himself well down the pecking order under Jurgen Klopp.

He was involved during their pre-season campaign however, impressing in a friendly against Osasuna and was an unusued sub in their 3-0 opening day Premier League victory at Norwich City on Saturday.

Woodburn is in the final year of his Liverpool contract and will need to leave in order to play regularly.

A loan switch looks the most likely path away from Merseyside initially, with clubs free to discuss a permanent switch with Woodburn from January.

However, it's claimed that Hearts would face competition from Denmark and Croatia if they are to make a move, with Woodburn considering several options on the table.
