Ben White's verdict on stepping up to the Championship with Leeds United

Leeds United centre-back Ben White insists that he isn't surprised by just how well he has adapted to the standard that the Championship requires.

White joined Leeds on a season-long loan from Premier League club Brighton & Hove Albion in July and has been an ever-present figure for Marcelo Bielsa's team so far this term, playing every minute of every league game.

This term is the first time that White has been handed the opportunity to test himself at Championship level and he has not looked out of place, following previous loan stints further down the leagues with Peterborough United last season and Newport County the year before.

Asked after the defeat to Millwall if he was surprised by just how well he has adapted to Championship football, White said: No, not really. I believe in myself so I think I can do whatever I can put my mind too.

"I have come from a Premier League side and I have been training with them day in, day out, so I have been learning bits.

"I have been on loan at Newport in League Two and League One and then it is just the next step."

White has come in for huge praise from head coach Bielsa for his string of fine performances and the central defender is happy to accept that appreciation from his manager.

"He's a great player," Bielsa said following the defeat at Millwall. "He takes risks and he doesn't make mistakes. That is the most difficult thing in football.

"It's easy when you don't risk the ball.

"It's normal, when you risk the ball, you have some mistakes, but the best players risk and don't make mistakes. Everything seems White is in this band."

"A manager like Bielsa saying that about me is really nice," White added. "But I need to carry on, keep going and continue to do my thing."
