Ben Simmons finally attempted a legitimate 3 … and almost made it

Ben Simmons has spent the entire season refusing to attempt non-buzzer shots from 3-point range. No matter how open, the Sixers guard simply wouldn’t shoot the 3.

That changed on Sunday.

During the Sixers’ game against the Lakers, Simmons took the first spot-up, 3-point shot of his NBA career. He did not make the shot, but hey, at least he didn’t embarrass himself.

It almost went in. I’ll give him that. He stepped into the shot with confidence and let it fly.

Every other 3 that Simmons had attempted in his NBA career were either halfcourt heaves or attempts to beat the buzzer. He took (and missed) a 3 at the first-half buzzer on Friday.

Sunday’s shot was officially Simmons’ third attempt from 3-point range this season. The miss made him 0 for 13 in his career.
