Ben Simmons defends his shoutout to Australian ‘Egg Boy’ with epic tweet

By now, you’ve probably seen (or at least heard of) Australian 17-year-old legend Will Connolly, now known as “Egg Boy.”

Connolly won over the internet’s heart when he smashed an egg on the head of Islamophobic Australian senator Fraser Anning after the tragic mosque shootings in Christchurch, New Zealand. Anning issued a deplorable statement following the shooting that left 50 people dead, blaming Muslims for an attack by a white nationalist.

The Philadelphia 76ers’ Ben Simmons gave Connolly a special shoutout during Tuesday’s game against the Hornets with yellow Nike sneakers that had “Egg Boy” written on the sides.

One Twitter user, though, appeared to take issue with the Australian basketball star supporting Egg Boy’s efforts. And he let Simmons know about it without the reasonable expectation of a response. But Simmons saw the tweet and didn’t hold back.

When the Twitter user asked if he would be OK with someone attacking his father based off his opinions, Simmons shut the tweet down with a fantastic response.

Basically, yes.

Nicely done, Ben. He’s Team Egg Boy for life.
