Ben Shephard 'stitched up' by Good Morning Britain bosses on Christmas episode

Ben Shephard jokes that he has been 'stitched up' by bosses over the seating arrangements for Good Morning Britain's Christmas special.

Just like it did last year, when Piers Morgan was still host, the ITV daytime show will broadcast to the nation on Christmas Day, before it takes an unprecedented break from screens between Christmas and New Year due to the coronavirus pandemic and concerns for staff.

Susanna Reid, who presented alongside Piers last year, is back to spread some more festive cheer this year, alongside Ben and their GMB co-star Kate Garraway.

Kicking off the pre-recorded show, which will go out from 7-9am on Saturday, Ben remarks about the seating plans, which sees him right in the middle of Susanna and Kate.

Ben opens the special festive episode by claiming: “Well hasn’t Santa delivered for me! I have the absolute pleasure of being the filling in this GMB Christmas sandwich.

He adds: "I have been put here, this isn’t my own doing! I’m just doing as I’m told, as I always do…”

Reacting to Ben, Susanna then quips “We were told that you especially asked for us in your Christmas stocking this morning?”

Speaking about whether they have been naughty or nice this year, Ben then admits: “Probably a mixture of both this year.”

Good Morning Britain' s Christmas special will feature an array of star guests including Martin and Shirley Kemp, The Wanted, comedian Tim Vine and Call the Midwife stars Miriam Margolyes and Chris Parisi.

The episode will also sees the hosts hand out The Dame Barbara Windsor Award to Gladys Nkohla - who has been a nurse for over 50 years and worked throughout the pandemic, covering extra night shifts despite being vulnerable herself.
