Ben Shephard recalls time Kate Garraway accidentally gave away his baby news 15-years ago

Ben Shephard, 45, has revealed that Kate Garraway, 53, accidentally revealed his baby news in 2015 - before he had given all the details to his family members.

The TV star, who was starring on GMTV with Kate at the time, recalled the moment when discussing lockdown birthdays on Friday morning's Good Morning Britian.

The chat began as Ben's co-host Charlotte Hawkins celebrated her 45th birthday earlier this week and Ben shared that his son Sam's birthday is coming up and he is struggling on ideas to make the quarantine day special.

As he reflected on his teenager's day, Ben was reminded of his birth 15-years-ago and how Kate made an epic blunder live on-air.

He said that he told Kate that she could not reveal the new tot's name yet as he was yet to inform all of his and wife Annie's family of the chosen moniker.

But as soon as the cameras started rolling Kate exclaimed to all the viewers: "Congratulations to Ben on having baby Sam!"

He chucked at the thought and filled with nostalgia he then urged TV fans to get in touch with lockdown birthday ideas @gm.tv.

Charlotte was left giggling at his mistake and reminded him that he was on Good Morning Britain and not GMTV - that ended in 2010.

Elsewhere on Friday's GMB Ben commented that it's lovely to see Kate smile after she shared a video clip onto Instagram on Thursday evening.

Kate's husband Derek is in a coma and has been in intensive care for seven weeks since contracting the coronavirus.

The ITV presenter, 53, has been taking to her door step to take part in the Clap For Carers celebration every Thursday since the outbreak of the deadly bug and she did not miss out showing her support this week.

Alongside the post - where said she refuses to give up hope that Derek will recover - Kate shared footage of herself and children Darcey, 14, and 10-year-old Billy clapping and cheering outside their house and in one part of the video she turned to her teenage daughter and flashed a smile.

After they showed Kate's new post on GMB, Ben - who is not just Kate's colleague but close pal - admitted that it was good to see her smile as she goes through the tough journey of her husband being severely unwell.

*Good Morning Britain airs weekdays at 6am on ITV
