Ben Shephard mocks 'ridiculous' claim Boris Johnson 'acted with integrity' over Arcuri

Good Morning Britain host Ben Shephard hit out at No. 10's statement following explosive claims made by Jennifer Arcuri, including that she and Boris Johnson had sex on the sofa of his family home.

The Prime Minister's press secretary insisted that Mr Johnson acted with "honesty and integrity", which Ben blasted as "ridiculous".

This comes after the US tech entrepreneur told the Mirror about her relationship with Johnson while he was Mayor of London, raising questions over rules were breached when Jennifer joined trade delegations and received public grants.

Joined by co-star Susanna Reid, the Mirror's Kevin Maguire and the Mail's Andrew Pierce, Ben scoffed at the response from Downing Street.

Susanna read out the statement from Johnson's spokesperson, saying: "Yesterday his spokesman said that he acted with honesty and integrity. Umm..."

As the panel tried to stifle their laughter, Ben jumped in and said: "We're just laughing - it's ridiculous! We're all just laughing at the idea."

Jennifer has said that her romance with the then-Mayor of London lasted from 2012 to 2016.

Susanna continued: "The Prime Minister still needs to, perhaps, still face an enquiry as to how she could gain access to trips and money while he was Mayor of London."

Yesterday, No. 10 Press Secretary Allegra Stratton said the police watchdog had found Mr Johnson had “no case to answer” over whether rules were breached when Jennifer joined trade delegations and received public grants.

Ms Stratton said: “This has already been looked at in detail by the Independent Office for Police Conduct and it found these claims were untrue and unfounded. This has been looked at in depth and there was found to be no case to answer.”

However, the phrase “untrue and unfounded” was not used in the IOPC’s report last year.

She also said he followed “all legal requirements” as Mayor.
