Ben Shephard makes cheeky Prince Harry dig aimed at Piers Morgan live on GMB

Ben Shephard couldn't resist making a rather obvious dig at his former colleague Piers Morgan on Friday.

The 46-year-old was hosting Good Morning Britain alongside Kate Garraway, when the conversation once again turned to the royal family and the aftermath of Prince Harry and Meghan Markle's recent claims.

Ben and Kate invited Jacqui Smith, Iain Dale and ITV royal editor Chris Ship to discuss the latest developments.

However, when Ben addressed Iain, he cheekily said: "Iain, I won't ask you about Prince Harry as you'll probably leave.

"We don’t want that, we’ve had enough of that this week!" Ben added, making a clear nod to Piers' abrupt exit from GMB on Tuesday.

Friday's edition of the show was certainly a bit more light-hearted compared to the events of the rest of the week.

And viewers tuning in at home were clearly enjoying the show and took to Twitter to comment.

One person posted: "GMB is a refreshing watch this morning. Must be the lack of certain someone. #goodmorningbritain."

Another viewer tweeted: "I AM FINALLY ENJOYING #GMB #goodmorningbritain ABSOLUTELY HILARIOUS AND FUN!!!! NO HATE, NO FIGHTS, NO DRAMA! YEAH, NO DRAMA QUEEN!"

It comes after Piers, 55, confirmed he will not be returning to Good Morning Britain despite fans setting up petitions to bring him back.

The petition has already racked up more than 200,000 names on the dotted line, according to the Daily Mail.

But despite the large number of signatures, it seems as though Piers is simply not willing to return.

"I won’t be going back, but thanks to everyone who has signed these petitions," he wrote in response to the petition.

"Normally, people start petitions to have me fired or deported, so this is a pleasant surprise."

After announcing his departure from ITV, Piers said he had "trusted his gut" and that he still did not believe the Duchess of Sussex had suffered from suicidal thoughts and that "freedom of speech is a hill [he] is happy to die on".

Speaking outside his London home on Wednesday morning, Piers said he had not been "cancelled" by the "woke crowd" and will "re-emerge" from "temporary hibernation" following his departure from the ITV morning show.

Good Morning Britain airs weekdays at 6am on ITV.
