Ben Shephard branded 'rude' by Susanna Reid after comment about Laura Tobin's dress

Ben Shephard was told off by Good Morning Britain co-host Susanna Reid after saying that Laura Tobin's dress "looks like a bin liner".

The 46-year-old joined Susanna on the ITV daytime show today, and was drawn by Laura's pleather-style evergreen dress.

She said: "Laura, I understand your dress today is sustainable."

"You have a choice with everything you do and everything you buy," Laura replied as she stood up to show off her outfit. "Debbie in wardrobe has made sure that from now on the clothes will be sustainable or they'll be re worn or they'll be borrowed."

Susanna asked: "In what way is the dress sustainable?"

Ben interjected: "Is that a bin liner?"

"No it's not a bin liner," Laura laughed as Susanna told him: "So rude!"

"The fabrics have been resourced sustainably and responsibly," Laura continued. "We do that with our cottons as well."

Ben asked whether it was plastic, to which Laura replied: "It's a type of plastic but it's remade from renewable fabrics."

"And it's wipe clean as well, which is a bonus," Ben quipped. "Because you spill cake down yourself all the time."

This isn't the first time Laura's dresses have drawn attention, with Piers Morgan being the usual culprit.

*Good Morning Britain airs weekdays at 6am on ITV
