Ben Shephard apologises as Michael Holding swears during passionate speech which is praised by GMB hosts

Ben Shephard issued an apology after Michael Holding swore during his appearance on the show but was heavily praised for his passionate speech.

The former West Indies cricketer joined Ben and Susanna Reid on Thursday's Good Morning Britain about his new book inspired by the racist abuse he has received..

Last year Micheal gave a powerful speech about black lives matter and he chatted to the hosts about the book which includes chapters he can't read back because they're so emotional.

“We have people growing up subconsciously or not thinking they are superior to other races and have people growing up, subconsciously or not thinking they are inferior to other races and that is a load of b*llocks as you would say," the Jamaican cricket commentator said towards the end of his chat on the ITV programme.

Ben then interjected: "We need to apologise, we can’t use, unfortunately that word first thing in the morning.

"But everybody understands the sentiment behind it.

“I beg your pardon, I am so sorry,” Michael apologised before Ben replied "No, no, it's okay."

Ben continued: “We can see how passionate you are about it," as Susanna added: "It's a reflection of your strength of feeling."

When the interview came to an end, Susanna joked: "And thanks for the language! Frankly, sometimes you need to hear it."

Ben apologised but was praised by both GMB hosts (ITV)

This then led to co-star Andi Peters discussing his own experience of racially profiling.

He thanked Michael for speaking out and agreed: "That one word expressed it all."

Viewers also heaped praise on Michael following his interview.

"A giant of a player on the field and a giant of a man off it," tweeted one.

Another said: "Listen and learn. Michael Holding speaking the truth. Legend. #BLM."

"It was a privilege to watch the interview with Michael Holding. What an amazing man so eloquent so measured such humanity!" a third added.

A fourth said: "Wow, amazing interview, dignified, saddening and shameful he even needs to speak about this again. Fully support his use of expletive, it's in context. Thankyou for giving him the space to talk & fully express. Good stuff!"
