Ben Roethlisberger is out for the season with an elbow injury

Steelers quarterback Ben Roethlisberger's season is over, the team announced Monday. Head coach Mike Tomlin cited a mysterious elbow injury that will require surgery and send Roethlisberger to injury reserve.

Pittsburgh is left with just Mason Rudolph at quarterback. Rudolph went 12-19 with two TDs and a pick on Sunday in a 28-26 loss to the Seahawks, and he'll be the starter now.

It's been a brutal 24 hours for the old guard of NFL quarterbacks, as the 37-year-old Roethlisberger and 40-year-old Drew Brees both suffered the worst injuries of their career.

Roethlisberger's injury came on a play with zero contact. He hurt it making a throw, making it seem almost like a baseball injury. The Steelers have not said what part of the elbow is injured, or what type of procedure he'll have.
