Battle of Bannockburn Experience staff and volunteers are to climb Ben Lomond this month to raise funds for the centre.
Money raised will go towards the repair of the armour and weapons collection, the running of the craft workshops and the reintroduction of lectures.
Visitor services assistant (learning and engagement) Kirsty Morrison said the walk was also a way of boosting morale.
She commented: “We’ve not seen one another for some time. A few staff members had been hill-walking during lockdown and after hearing how much they enjoyed their adventures, we decided it was a natural choice for a group activity, particularly for its mental and physical health benefits – a winning combination of well-being and fundraising for learning and engagement at the centre.”
To compensate for some financial losses in the wake of Covid-19, staff and volunteers have been creating and delivering additional tours and activities to run alongside the Experience, such as weapons handling, outdoor tours and crafts.
Kirsty added: “Any money we raise will contribute towards learning resources and events – to repair and restore our invaluable armour and weapons collection, continue to run our craft workshops and reintroduce our popular lecture series to name a few.
“In addition to fundraising for the centre, we would like to raise awareness of mountain path erosion and will be meeting up with Ben Lomond’s rangers to discuss ways in which this can be avoided prior to our climb.”
