Ben Jones named ‘player to watch’ in free agency by New York Post

With the first wave of free agency winding down, teams may be able to find some value on players with not as much movement, especially as we get closer to the draft.

The Jets may still be in the market for a center. They did just sign Wes Schweitzer from the Washington Commanders, but he’s ideally more of a guard for the Jets rather than a center. There is another veteran center on the market that could be of interest to the Jets, as noted by Brian Costello of the New York Post. That player is former Titans’ center Ben Jones.

The 33-year-old was cut about a week ago by the Titans after seven seasons, the last five with new Jets’ offensive line coach Keith Carter, as Costello noted. He spent his first four seasons in the league with the Houston Texans.

Jones was named to the Pro Bowl for the first time in his career in 2022. He was selected as a roster replacement for Chiefs’ center Creed Humphrey after Kansas City advanced to the Super Bowl.

Jones has started 151 games and played in another 21. He played in 12 games for the Titans in 2022, missing five games due to concussions.

Jones would add a short-term veteran presence and keep open the possibility of the Jets drafting a center and letting him develop behind Jones.
