Ben & Jerry's recalls non-dairy Chunky Monkey ice cream over nut allergy fears

Nut allergy fears have forced popular ice cream manufacturers Ben & Jerry's to recall one of its products.

The non-dairy 'Chunky Monkey' flavour has been recalled over potential health risks the product could pose.

The flavour contains almonds, walnuts and soya, which are not mentioned on the label.

The recall has been issued by Unilever, Ben & Jerry's parent organisation, and appears on the Food Standards Agency website, reports Manchester Evening News.

The alert reads: "Further to investigation relating to Ben & Jerrys Chunky Monkey Non-Dairy 100ml (1x12), we have identified that an artwork error has occurred on the packaging of the L8338 BBE 06/2020 batch.

"This means there is no detailed nutritional and allergen information which is required on back of pack for individual items for sale to consumers.

"Three allergens are present in this product; almonds, walnuts and soy. Both almonds and walnuts are listed on the product lid and tub. However, because there is no back of pack nutritional panel, soy is not labelled anywhere on pack."

Customers are being advised to not eat it and instead return the product to the store where it was bought for a full refund.

No other Unilever products are known to be affected.
