Ben & Jerry's is giving away FREE ice cream in Manchester next week

Ice cream giants Ben & Jerry's will be giving away thousands of scoops of ice cream across the UK next week, as part of the annual Free Cone Day celebrations.

Scoop Shops will be offering a free scoop of any flavour on Tuesday, April 9 at selected locations across the nation, including two in Greater Manchester.

Free scoops will be available at Showcase Cinema on Hyde Road in Belle Vue, and at Empire Wigan on the Robin Retail Park.

You can get a scoop of the action delivered straight to your door for the first time this year too.

All Ben & Jerry's delivery orders from their nationwide ice cream stores placed through selected delivery partners will arrive with a free 'Wich - that's chunky and swirly ice cream sandwiched between two cookies.

Latest flavours available on Free Cone Day include the Moo-phoria Chocolate Cookie Dough, a lighter option with fewer calories than regular ice cream.

Also included will be Scoop Shop exclusive Cherry Garcia.

Although you can only pick up one scoop at a time, there are no rules about re-joining the queue for extra scoops.

Co-founders Ben Cohen and Jerry Greenfield first dreamed up Free Cone Day way back in 1979 at their original Scoop Shop in Burlington Vermont.

The idea turned into an annual – and now global – event with over a million scoops handed out worldwide each April.

"We’re nothing without our fans," said Ben & Jerry’s CEO Matthew McCarthy. "This is one of our favourite days of the year. It’s a special tradition that’s all about showing the love for our flavour fans the best way that we know how."

Free Cone Day will be taking place at Showcase in Belle Vue and Empire in Wigan on Tuesday, April 6.
