Ben & Jerry's has just launched a new flavour - and loyal fans may recognise it

Just because the hot weather has disappeared, doesn't mean the ice cream has to too, with Ben and Jerry's welcoming in the new, indulgent season with a brand new flavour of their famous ice cream.

The ice cream giants has just announced the launch of the all new Chocolate Cherry Garcia, which features rich, chocolatey ice cream with generous pieces of chocolatey chunks and cherry pieces whipped in.

Sound familiar? Loyal fans may already recognise the flavour back from when the original cherry garcia launched back in the day, although this time, there's a LOT more chocolate involved, which is never a bad thing...

According to the brand, the genius recipe wasn't actually their own idea, with the original iconic concoction of cherry pieces and chocolatey chunks being one of Ben & Jerry’s first fan suggestions way back in '86, when two fans of rock band Grateful Dead left the idea for Cherry Garcia on a board in their local scoop shop in Portland, Maine.

Arriving in supermarket freezers all across the nation from mid-September, the new flavour will be joined by the rest of the Ben and Jerry's Moo-phoria range, with each tub setting you back a hefty £5.49 - even more expensive than their standard range, which is £4.50 a tub.

As with the rest of the Moo-phoria selection, the chocolate cherry garcia offering is also a lot healthier for you than you might expect, containing a tiny 117 calories per 100ml serving.

Tsega Abate, Ben & Jerry’s Flavour Guru said: “We think this new addition to our Moo-phoria light family will be music to the ears and the taste buds. We’ve given our musically-inspired classic Cherry Garcia an all-new chocolatey twist giving ice cream fans a tub which is light on fat but loud on flavour.”
