Ben & Jerry's decide on the right way to store ice cream after hack goes viral

If your freezer is regularly filled with ice cream, it's worth taking note of how you've stored it.

While it might seem a pointless task, according to experts there's a very good reason why you should pay attention to your tubs.

A mum's Facebook post recently highlighted the mistake we've all been making.

According to the Australian woman, you should actually place your tubs in the freezer upside down, reports Daily Star.

This is due to the fact upside down tubs reduce the ice cream crystallising and going watery as the half-melted ice cream drips downwards onto the lid rather than having lots of space to create crystals.

And it would appear Ben and Jerry's agree, as the ice cream giants outlined the hack on its website along with another storage tip.

According to the company, ice cream should never be stored in the door.

On its website the ice cream experts state: "Freezer burn may be your ice cream’s worst foe.

"Spare yourself from experiencing this culinary catastrophe: store your pint upside down somewhere deep in the freezer (never in the door).

"Of course, the other popular way to beat the burn is… eat the whole pint!"

But just make sure your lids are on tightly before flipping all the tubs in your freezer over.
